Stephen Fodor, Jami Nachtsheim
Affymetrix Founder and Chairman Stephen Fodor is retiring from the company's board, effective Jan. 30. Jami Nachtsheim will succeed Fodor as Chairwoman.
Fodor founded Affy in 1992 and initially was the company's scientific director. In 1993, he was named the firm's president and served as its CEO from 1997 to 2008. He has been on the board since Affy's founding and became its chairman in 1999.
Nachtsheim has been an Affy director since 2010. Three years later, she became its lead independent director.
Promega's PowerPlex Fusion 6C System
Promega has released the PowerPlex Fusion 6C System for forensic casework samples. The PowerPlex Fusion 6C is a six-color, 27-locus multiplex system. It combines common and informative loci to overcome typical challenges faced by laboratories, including sample inhibitors, low levels of input DNA, degradation, and mixtures, Promega said. Two rapidly-mutating Y-STR loci, DYS570 and DYS576, are included in the multiplex for improved mixture interpretation, the firm said, and the system offers rapid-cycling protocols of approximately one hour.
New England Biolabs' NEBuilder HiFi DNA Assembly Cloning Kit and Master Mix
New England Biolabs has introduced its NEBuilder HiFi DNA Assembly Cloning Kit and Master Mix for one-step cloning and multiple DNA fragment assembly in as little as 15 minutes. The proprietary DNA polymerase in the NEBuilder HiFi enzyme mix results in extremely accurate fragment assemblies and cloning junctions, and can assemble DNA fragments ranging from 100 bp to at least 19 kb, NEB said.
