Jay Therrien has been named vice president of global sales for next-generation sequencing at Life Technologies. Most recently, Therrien was director of sales for Asia Pacific and Japan for Illumina, which he joined in 2004 as a regional account manager. He holds a PhD from the University of Kansas and a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Evan Eichler has joined the scientific advisory board of Pacific Biosciences. He is a professor of genome sciences at the University of Washington School of Medicine. Eichler holds a PhD from the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine and a BS in biology from the University of Saskatchewan.

Leroy Hood and David Galas are among the founders of Integrated Diagnostics, a company that will focus on developing personalized and preventive diagnostics based on organ-specific proteins.

Hood is the president of the Institute for Systems Biology in Seattle and an inventor of automated fluorescence-based DNA sequencing. Galas is a professor at ISB and vice president and CSO of the Battelle Memorial Institute. In the past, he was director for health and environmental research at the US Department of Energy's Office of Science, where he headed the DOE's Human Genome Project from 1990 to 1993.
