Bruker Daltonics has hired Gary Kruppa as vice president for Western US Operations, which is based in Fremont, Calif. His position begins in February. Kruppa will be responsible for managing Bruker’s West Coast life-science mass-spectrometry applications laboratory, as well as all sales, service, and support operations in the Western United States.
Kruppa comes to Bruker from Sandia National Laboratories, where he was a principal member of the technical staff. In 1990, he was employed at Bruker Instruments, an affiliate of Bruker Daltonics, as an applications scientist.
Alnoor Shivji, Victor Joseph, and Amjad Huda have founded WaferGen, a Fremont, Calif., high-throughput screening and cell-based assay company. Shivji, the chairman of WaferGen, has founded three telecommunications companies that were sold to Ciena, Cisco, and Redback Networks, the company said. Joseph, an engineer, previously held positions at Cisco and Hewlett-Packard. Additional information on Huda was not available.
Robert Pinco has joined the advisory council at CyGene Laboratories, a Coral Springs, Fla., company that designs genetic-profiling and diagnostic-testing methods, the company said last week. Pinco currently co-chairs the BioMedical/FDA practice and the biotechnology group at the law firm Buchanan Ingersoll, in Washington, DC, CyGene said.
