Edge BioSystems has released a new product line of magnetic bead dye terminator removers. According to Edge, sequencing-reaction products are adsorbed to magnetic particles, washed with alcohol, and eluted in water. The system can be used in single tubes as well as 96-well and 384-well plates, and may be automated for high-throughput sequencing.

Pyrosequencing said its Vacuum Prep Tool is now available for all 96-well Pyrosequencing genetic-analysis systems. According to the Swedish tool company, the VPL is cost-effective because it doubles the life of the 96-filter probes within the hand-held device. The bench-top workstation comprises a VPL in combination with the new worktable, which contains solution troughs, an integrated vacuum pressure gauge, and a storage position for the VPL.

Genaissance Pharmaceuticals won a US patent for identifying haplotypes of a gene encoding angiotensin receptor 1, which is a target used to treat hypertension.
