In their genetic study of a rare cardiovascular condition called abdominal aortic aneurysm, a team of Montreal researchers found that SNPs in a gene called BAK1 were different in aortic tissue than in matched blood samples.

The deal will give cash-strapped Decode immediate access to an undisclosed sum in upfront payments, while Celera will gain access to gene markers that will expand its cardiovascular disease-focused genetic testing service.

Celera plans to use the SNPs to develop personalized risk tests for heart attack, stroke, and type 2 diabetes.
