EC Clears Thermo Fisher Buy of Phadia

NEW YORK (GenomeWeb News) – The European Commission has cleared Thermo Fisher Scientific's $3.5 billion purchase of Phadia, the EC said today.

The deal was earlier cleared by the US Federal Trade Commission, and during Thermo Fisher's recent second-quarter earnings conference call, CEO Marc Casper moved up the anticipated close of the transaction to the third quarter from the fourth quarter.

Thermo Fisher said earlier this week it had issued $2.1 billion in senior notes, partly to fund the acquisition.
