NEW YORK (GenomeWeb News) – AdvanDx recently announced the appointment of Alpha Laboratories to support the launch of AdvanDx's molecular QuickFISH test.
Under the terms of the deal, Alpha Lab has the exclusive rights to distribute the test in the UK. QuickFISH detects Staphylococcus aureus and/or coagulase-negative staphylococci and received 510(k) clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration in April. It was launched in the US and Europe in September.
The test uses AdvanDx's proprietary peptide nucleic acid technology to identify species of bacteria in 20 minutes directly from positive blood cultures. Pathogen identification can now be reported simultaneously with Gram stain results, the firm said.
The company, which has offices in Woburn, Mass. and Vedbaek, Denmark, said that additional QuickFISH assays are being developed for other microbial species and will be launched this year and in 2013.
Financial and other terms of the deal were not disclosed.
