The money, donated by biopharmaceutical company Shire, will be used to fund training fellowships for medical geneticists.

Pfizer and Shire last month were dragged into an ongoing patent-infringement lawsuit filed by Isis Pharmaceuticals against Santaris Pharma, with Isis asking for a court order to force the two drug makers to provide information it claims is relevant to the legal proceedings.

Arrowhead Research and Shire this week announced that they have struck an alliance to develop and commercialize drugs combining Arrowhead's targeted delivery peptides and Shire's therapeutic payloads.

Shire will use the hosted E-WorkBook solution in collaborations with contract research organizations. Because the hosted approach will not require on-site data storage, it will reduce the IT footprint for both Shire and its CRO partners, IDBS said.

A Santaris official also said that while the company remains committed to microRNAs as drug targets, the company isn’t likely to advance additional miRNA drugs into the clinic in the near term as it takes a measured approach to selecting future clinical candidates.
