Akonni Biosystems appoints Jan Smilek as CFO; James Robb joins Biomatrica's SAB.

The companies plan to combine Akonni's TruArray gel-drop microarray platform with Seegene's Dual Priming Oligo multiplex PCR technology in a bid to deliver a low-cost molecular diagnostics system.

The firms will combine their technologies to develop molecular diagnostic tests for infectious pathogens that cause respiratory diseases.

The agreement provides Akonni access to nucleic acid sequences, primers, and probes for several important biothreat agents, which it will incorporate into molecular tests on its TruArray and TruSentry platforms.

Akonni plans to use the content to develop products to expand its market presence beyond detection of infectious diseases, including global biosecurity.
