Rolland Carlson
WaferGen Biosystems has appointed Rolland Carlson as president and CEO. Carlson assumes this role from Ivan Trifunovich, who has served as president and CEO since March 2012. Trifunovich has been appointed executive chairman of WaferGen.
Carlson most recently served as president and CEO of Asuragen. Prior to that post, he served in increasingly senior positions at Abbott Laboratories over a 20-year period, including as global general manager and vice president of molecular diagnostics for Vysis, an Abbott subsidiary.
Jay Flatley
Illumina CEO Jay Flatley has been named a founding board member of Denali Therapeutics, a company developing therapies aimed at neurodegenerative diseases that launched this week with an initial investment commitment of $217 million.
Akiko Tanaka
Akiko Tanaka has been appointed president and CEO of Canon US Life Sciences, a wholly owned subsidiary of Canon USA. Tanaka was previously vice president and COO of Canon US Life Sciences. She was also recently appointed president and CEO of the newly established Canon BioMedical, and will oversee development of the company's diagnostic solutions.
Joe Keegan
Courtagen Life Sciences has appointed Joe Keegan to its board of directors. Keegan served as CEO of protein analysis products firm ForteBio, which was sold to Pall in 2012, and was CEO of Molecular Devices for nine years, prior to that firm's acquisition in 2007 by MDS for $615 million. He also previously served as president of worldwide tissue culture and VP, general manager of worldwide flow cytometry for Becton Dickinson, and VP of the microscopy and scientific instruments division of Leica.
