NEW YORK (GenomeWeb News) – The National Institutes of Health this week said that it has appointed James Anderson to be director of the NIH Division of Program Coordination, Planning, and Strategic Initiatives (DPCPSI). He is expected to start his new position in September.

Anderson has been a professor and chair of the Department of Cell and Molecular Physiology in the School of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill since 2002. Before working at UNC, Anderson was a professor of medicine and cell biology and chief of the section of digestive diseases at the Yale School of Medicine.

The DPCPSI includes identifying emerging scientific opportunities, rising public health challenges, and scientific knowledge gaps that merit more research, and it plans and implements trans-NIH initiatives supported by the NIH Common Fund.


Fluxion Biosciences has tapped Steve Smith to be head of its IonFlux sales and application activities. Smith previously has been a drug discovery researcher at Lexicon Genetics, a manager of training and support at Axon/Molecular Devices, and director of client services at Chantest.


Kreatech Diagnostics last week named Rolf Hansen as director of marketing and sales. Hansen has worked for Qiagen, Beckman Coulter, Miltenyi Biotech, and Transgenomic, and he has a PhD in natural science from the Max Planck Institute.
