NEW YORK (GenomeWeb) – BioMérieux said this week that Alexandre Mérieux has assumed the role of CEO. He previously was a deputy chief executive officer and corporate vice president of microbiology unit and manufacturing and supply operations at the company.
Ryan Taft has joined Illumina as director of scientific research.
Taft is laboratory head and senior research fellow at the University of Queensland's Institute for Molecular Bioscience. He holds a BSc in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of California, Davis. Taft will maintain a joint appointment with UQ while working for Illumina.
Vermillion has tapped its James LaFrance, chairman of the firms' board of directors, to succeed Thomas McLain as president and CEO.
LaFrance, who will continue to serve as Vermillion's board chairman, formerly was CEO of Omnyx, and he held executive leadership posts at Ventana Medical Systems and Bayer Diagnostics.
PositiveID has appointed Lyle Probst president of the company.
Probst joined PositiveID in 2011 when it acquired Microfluidic Systems, and before that he directed bio-detection programs at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. He ran programs such as the Department of Homeland Security's Bioagent Autonomous Networked Detector program and the BioWatch Generation 1 lab at LLNL. He also was director of capillary electrophoresis and chemistries at the Joint Genome Institute.
Meridian Bioscience said this week that it recently hired Michael Shaughnessy as executive vice president and president of Meridian Global Diagnostics.
Shaughnessy has more than 32 years of experience in medical devices and diagnostics, having held senior positions at Carter Wallace and Corpak MedSystems, Meridian said. He will lead and oversee the commercial efforts and resources of Meridian's Diagnostics business on a global basis.
Enterome has appointed Alessandra Cervino as head of discovery, where she will lead metagenomics research of the gut microbiome with the goal of developing disease biomarkers, companion diagnostics, and new therapy solutions.
Before joining Enterome, Cervino was vice president of R&D and biostatistics at TCLand Expression, a personalized medicine company. Before that, she was head of statistical sciences and an assistant professor at Scripps Florida, and was the first group lead in statistical genetics at Rosetta Inpharmatics/Merck.
Pathway Genomics has appointed genetic counselors Jill Davies and Elissa Levin to its genetic advisory board.
Davies is the director of genetics and genomics at Medcan Clinic and is a co-investigator on the Personal Genome Project Canada. She is an active member of the Ontario Personalized Medicine Network, the National Society of Genetic Counselors, and is a Canadian board-certified genetic counselor.
Levin is the head of genomics and integrative health innovations and is an assistant professor of genetics and genomic sciences at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Previously, she directed clinical support services for Life Technologies and before that was vice president of genomic services at Navigenics.
George Bickerstaff has joined the board of directors of molecular diagnostics firm CareDx. He currently is a managing director with investment banking firm MM Dillon & Co. Bickerstaff also previously served as CFO of Novartis Pharma.
