NEW YORK (GenomeWeb News) – Horizon Discovery said this week that it has named Ian Gilham to be chairman of its board of directors.

Gilham currently is non-executive chairman of the molecular genetic testing company Multiplicom and point-of-care diagnostics firm Biosurfit.

He formerly was CEO of Axis-Shield, an in vitro diagnostics company acquired by Alere in 2011. Before that he held international general management, marketing, business development, and research and development posts at GlaxoSmithKline, Abbott Laboratories, Celltech, and Amersham.


Bruker's shareholders have elected Gilles Martin to fill a vacant seat on its board of directors.

Martin is chairman and CEO of Eurofins Scientific Group, a Luxembourg-based life sciences company. He founded the original Eurofins Scientific Nantes food authenticity laboratory, and formerly was president of the French Association of private and analytical laboratories and the North American Technical Committee for Juice and Juice Products.


Hybrigenics this week announced that it has appointed Etienne Formstecher CEO of its Hybrigenics Services subsidiary.

Formstecher was previously deputy general manager in charge of marketing, sales, and scientific projects at Hybrigenics Services. He originally joined the company in 2002.


Molecular Health has added four new members to its marketing and sales team, including Dana Dilbeck, Mridula Iyer, Daniel Helle, and Kregg Everett.

Dilbeck will be VP of market access and strategy for the commercial/marketing group, and will oversee US market access and strategy for the firm's TreatmentMAP. She spent 15 years with US Oncology developing and executing the company's managed care and Medicare strategies.

Iyer will serve as director of product marketing. She spent eight years at Qiagen, helping to position the firm's diagnostics and pharmaceutical portfolio.

Helle will be regional VP of business development, covering the Eastern US region. He has over 25 years of cancer diagnostics experience, and previously was a regional manager at Clarient/GE and at Impath and US Labs.

Everett also will be regional VP of sales and development, covering the Western US region. He was a regional director for Clarient/GE.


Stratos Genomics has appointed Todd Smith to its science advisory board. Smith recently retired from PerkinElmer.

Previously, he was president, CEO, and CTO of Geospiza, before it was acquired by PerkinElmer. He holds a PhD in medicinal chemistry from the University of Washington.


The Genome Analysis Center in the UK has appointed Federica Di Palma to lead the Vertebrate and Health Genomics Group.

Di Palma joins TGAC from the Broad Institute, where she was assistant director of the vertebrate biology group. She was also awarded a Fogarty Fellowship from the National Institute of Deafness and Communication Disorders after receiving her PhD in immunogenetics from the University of Reading.


The Belgian life sciences networking organization FlandersBio said this week it has appointed Henk Joos to be managing director of organization.

Joos has held various positions in the agricultural biotech sector, including working in management at AgrEvo, Aventis Cropscience, Bayer Cropscience, and Quinvita. He also served on FlandersBio's board of directors from 2004 to 2006.


Arno Therapeutics has appointed David Jackson as its VP of diagnostics and Joseph Bisaha as its new VP of clinical operations and project management. In their new positions, both Bisaha and Jackson will support the development of the personalized cancer drug onapristone, Arno's lead product.

Jackson comes to Arno from molecular testing firm PrimeraDx where he was VP of business development. Jackson also was senior director of companion diagnostic partnerships at Qiagen Manchester and consulted drug and diagnostics developers on the development and commercialization of personalized medicines and companion tests.

Before joining Arno, Bisaha was a clinical research consultant with Kaizen Clinical Services, where he handled Arno's clinical operations and project management activities. During his 17-year career, he has held various management roles, including associate VP of project management at ImClone Systems and senior director of clinical research and drug development at Ono Pharma.
