NEW YORK (GenomeWeb News) – Genomic Health has appointed Richard Tompane as president of its new subsidiary InVitae, which will focus on developing next-generation-based sequencing diagnostics for genetic diseases. Tompane was previously president and CEO of Gemfire and has also served as an independent consultant.

Transgenomic said in a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission this week that its interim CFO Brett Frevert would no longer work for the company as of June 3. Frevert was serving as interim CFO under a contract with CFO Systems. Transgenomic CEO Craig Tuttle will assume the role of interim CFO as the company completes its search for a permanent CFO.

LaserGen has appointed Mimi Healy its new CEO and member of the board of directors. She previously served as CEO of Houston-based Bacterial Barcodes, a spin-off company of BCM Technologies.

Bioinformatics startup Omicia said this week that Leroy Hood and Paul Flicek have joined its scientific advisory board. Hood is co-founder and president of the Institute for Systems Biology and helped found several companies, including Applied Biosystems and Amgen. Flicek is team leader and senior scientist at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory's European Bioinformatics Institute.

Phthisis Diagnostics has hired Betty Polk as its new business development and global sales director and Robert Owen as its new controller. Polk has previously worked in sales at Gibco Diagnostics; Sigma Chemical Co., Cell Culture Division; TechLab, Inc.; Gen-Probe/Prodesse, Inc.; and bioMerieux. Owen previously served as controller at PGxHealth, a division of Clinical Data; Adenosine Therapuetics, until it was acquired by PGxHealth; Trovis Pharmaceuticals; and Dogwood Pharmaceuticals.

Amplicon Express announced that Jon Wittendorp has joined the firm as VP of international business development. For the past eight years, Wittendorp worked with KeyGene, most recently filling the role of business account administrator.

Lee McCracken has joined the board of directors of NextGen Group, a biomarker discovery and testing services firm. McCracken previously was corporate head of business development at Prometheus Laboratories, which was sold to Nestle in 2011. He also was president of GenStar Therapeutics and managing director of Pacific Pharma, a subsidiary of Allergan.
