NEW YORK (GenomeWeb News) – David Okrongly has stepped down as CEO of Quanterix. Executive Chairman Martin Madaus is currently acting as the company's interim CEO. Madaus has been executive chairman since November 2010. Previously he was president and CEO of Millipore.

Exact Sciences has re-elected James Connelly and Lionel Sterling to continue their services on its board of directors for three years. A partner at the law firm of Foley & Lardner, Connelly has been a director since 2009. Sterling, who has been a director for one year, is president of Equity Resource.

Proteome Sciences has tapped Glenn Barney to be VP of business development in North America. Barney previously held the same title at NextGen Sciences, where he was responsible for commercializing biomarker discovery services, and he held senior positions at Decision Biomarkers and PerkinElmer.

BG Medicine has appointed former BioMérieux CEO Stephane Bancel to serve as chairman of its board of directors. Bancel will replace Noubar Afeyan, a company founder and chairman of the board since the company's inception as well as CEO and managing partner of Flagship Ventures, who will continue to serve on the firm's board.

Mark Socinski has been named director of the Lung Cancer Section of the University of Pittsburgh's School of Medicine. He will have a joint appointment as a professor of surgery in the university's Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Socinski, who will join Pitt in September, currently is a professor of medicine and director of the Multidisciplinary Thoracic Oncology Program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Elliott Margulies is now the director of sequencing applications at Illumina's Little Chesterford location in the UK. Previously, he was an investigator at the National Human Genome Research Institute's genome informatics section. At NHGRI, Margulies developed bioinformatic approaches using next-generation sequencing technologies.
