LaserGen has named Mimi Healy CEO and to its board of directors. She is taking over from founder Michael Metzker, who developed and patented the company's proprietary Lightning Terminators. Healy will be responsible for transitioning the company from technology development to commercialization.
Previously, she served as CEO of Bacterial Barcodes, a spin-off of BCM Technologies. Healy holds a PhD in microbiology, an MS and BS in biology, and a BA in psychology of industry and organizations.
Bioinformatics startup Omicia has appointed Leroy Hood and Paul Flicek to its scientific advisory board. Hood is co-founder and president of the Institute for Systems Biology and helped found several companies, including Applied Biosystems and Amgen. Flicek is team leader and senior scientist at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory's European Bioinformatics Institute.
IntegenX has appointed David Smith as chief operating officer. Smith was most recently the executive vice president and chief financial officer at Thoratec. Previously, he served as chief financial officer at Chiron. He has also held positions at Genentech, Syntex, and IBM. He holds a BA in economics and history from Willamette University and an MBA from Golden Gate University.
