RainDance Technologies has appointed Alfred Merriweather as CFO. He most recently served as CFO of Verinata Health prior to its acquisition by Illumina. Previously he served as CFO and in senior executive positions with several life science and clinical diagnostics companies, including Celera Corporation and Monogram Biosciences.


Dirk Evers is now VP of data operations at Molecular Health in Heidelberg, Germany. Previously, he was senior vice president of informatics at the New York Genome Center and was also the director of computational biology at Illumina. He holds a PhD in bioinformatics from Bielefeld University.


Two genomics facilities within the University of Edinburgh, GenePool and ARK-Genomics, have merged to form Edinburgh Genomics. Mark Blaxter, professor of evolutionary genomics at the University of Edinburgh will serve as director of Edinburgh Genomics. Karim Gharbi, who was previously the scientific manager of GenePool, will serve as head of genomics, while Mick Watson, previously the director of ARK-Genomics, will be head of bioinformatics.


Tsinghua University Press and Springer have awarded Charles Leiber the first Nano Research Award, accompanied by $10,000, for his work on the rational growth, characterization and applications of a broad range of nanometer diameter wires and heterostructures. Lieber is the Mark Hyman Professor of Chemistry at Harvard University. He serves on the editorial and advisory boards of many science and technology journals.
