SoftGenetics has released its latest NextGene software. The new version includes a transcriptome analysis module for use with sequence reads by the Illumina Genome Analyzer and HiSeq platforms, Life Technologies' SOLiD, and Roche's 454 GS FLX and Junior platforms. Additionally, the new release includes a forensic STR analysis module for use with the 454 platforms.
The National Center for Biotechnology Information's dbSNP has new additions. dbSNP Mouse_10090 and Cow_9913 Build 131 are now available here.
Additionally, dbSNP Human_9606 now includes allele frequency from the 1000 Genomes pilot, available here.
Data from the 1000 Genomes full project genotype release will be included in the May build release of dbSNP.
Life Technologies has launched several new products for library preparation and analysis. Its Library Builder System is a benchtop device for the automation of library construction and is compatible with the 5500 SOLiD Series and the Ion Torrent Personal Genome Machine. Its DNA and RNA Library Preparation Kits have been optimized for the Ion Torrent PGM and, according to the company, can prepare libraries from DNA or RNA in two hours in a single tube.
LifeTech has also released its LifeScope Genomic Analysis Software, which the company said will cut sequence mapping times in half. The software is compatible with the 5500 Series SOLiD, and future releases will be compatible with the Ion Torrent PGM and other platforms.
