Clontech Laboratories has released its SMARTer Ultra Low RNA Kit for sequencing on Illumina platforms. The kit, developed in collaboration with Illumina, incorporates a modified version of Clontech's SMART,technology, which stands for switching mechanism at 5' end of RNA template. According to Clontech, the kit enables researchers to perform an entire sample-prep protocol with as little as 100 picograms of input RNA and in a single tube without a separate adapter-ligation step.

Bioo Scientific has released its NEXTflex PCR-Free DNA Sequencing Kit, a sample-prep kit without an amplification step. According to the company, the kit uses enhanced adapter-ligation technology, which results in library preps with a larger number of unique sequencing reads. It also uses master mixed reagents and magnetic bead-based cleanup, and has up to 48 unique adapter barcodes. The kit is compatible with Illumina's Genome Analyzer, HiSeq 2000 and HiSeq 1000 instruments.

Halo Genomics
has released its HaloPlex PCR Reagent Kit. According to the company, the kit combines PCR with sequencing library preparation, which enables users to increase their sample throughput by up to five-fold. The kit can amplify up to 2,000 target exons in one tube, which can then be pooled and sequenced directly without modification.

Agilent has named BGI a certified service provider for its SureSelect XT Target Enrichment System for targeted next-generation sequencing. It is certified for all SureSelect XT target-enrichment protocols including human all-exon, SureSelect indexing, DNA capture, RNA capture, kinome RNA, and custom kits.
