Life Technologies has launched its Life Technologies has launched its Ion Total RNA-Seq kit for transcript expression analysis on the Ion Torrent PGM. According to the company, the kit can analyze any type of RNA including rRNA-depleted total RNA, poly-A RNA, and small RNA. Additionally, it preserves strand information by aligning all mapped reads in the direction of transcription relative to the chromosomal strand.

Life Technologies also released its LifeScope bioinformatics software for analyzing next-gen sequencing data. The software has been optimized for the company's 5500 Series Genetic Analyzers. According to the company, LifeScope provides SNP detection, small RNA analysis, and other genomic-related analyses.
