SoftGenetics' NextGene software is now available with the Ion Torrent PGM, through the Ion Torrent online store as well as standard ordering channels. The companies have entered into a reseller's agreement, and the software has been tailored to process sequence data from the PGM for applications such as de novo assembly, SNP and indel detection, ChIP-seq, and RNA-seq, according to the companies.
Swiss service provider Fasteris is now offering scaled-back sequencing services on the Illumina HiSeq 2000. It will offer 10 percent of a HiSeq channel for single-end sequencing of 50-base reads for CHF 380 ($420). The company said this option will reduce costs compared to a full channel, which would typically produce between 50 million and 100 million reads,
According to the company, an entire bacterial genome could be resequenced for under $1,500 including sample prep and bioinformatics. Of the 5 million to 8 million reads that it expects to generate on each 10 percent channel, it guarantees that 2.5 million reads will pass filter.
