Ariosa's Harmony NIPT Gets CPT Code

NEW YORK (GenomeWeb News) – Non-invasive prenatal testing company Ariosa Diagnostics said today that effective Jan. 1, 2014, its Harmony Prenatal Test had a Category 1 MAAA CPT code.

The CPT code, 81507, is unique to the Harmony test and should facilitate reimbursements from third-party payors, San Jose, Calif.-based Ariosa said. Harmony is blood-based and evaluates cell-free DNA from the fetus found in maternal circulation to assess the risk of fetal aneuploidies, including trisomy 21, 18, and 13.

Ariosa also said today that it tested more than 45,000 pregnant women in the fourth quarter of 2013. The company had previously said that since Harmony's launch in May 2012 through September 2013, it had performed the test on more than 150,000 women.
