Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press this week said that its current issue of Cold Spring Harbor Protocols addresses live-cell imaging techniques.

The first protocol, available here, details a microinjection procedure to inject fluorescently labeled proteins into individual cells, CSHLP said.

The second protocol, available here, outlines the construction and use of an enclosed microscope chamber. The device is designed to optimize the cell-culture environment for microscopic viewing.

Both protocols are freely accessible, CSHLP said.

Invitrogen this week announced the availability of OptiCHO Express kits for the growth and transfection of dihydrofolate reductase-deficient Chinese hamster ovary DG44 cells in suspension culture. The kit provides a complete workflow protocol for developing stable cell lines and includes all of the necessary components for expression vector construction, high-efficiency transfection, and recombinant protein expression in a serum-free environment, Invitrogen said.

Latent HIV Found in White Blood Cells of Individuals on Long-Term Treatments

Researchers in Nature Microbiology find HIV genetic material in monocyte white blood cells and in macrophages that differentiated from them in individuals on HIV-suppressive treatment.

Seagull Microbiome Altered by Microplastic Exposure

The overall diversity and the composition at gut microbiome sites appear to coincide with microplastic exposure and ingestion in two wild bird species, according to a new Nature Ecology and Evolution study.

Study Traces Bladder Cancer Risk Contributors in Organ Transplant Recipients

In eLife, genome and transcriptome sequencing reveal mutation signatures, recurrent somatic mutations, and risky virus sequences in bladder cancers occurring in transplant recipients.

Genes Linked to White-Tailed Jackrabbits' Winter Coat Color Change

Climate change, the researchers noted in Science, may lead to camouflage mismatch and increase predation of white-tailed jackrabbits.
