Bruce Beutel, Roger Cone

Znomics has named Bruce Beutel as chief scientific officer, the company announced this week. Beutel succeeds Roger Cone, who has accepted the position of chairman of the department of molecular physiology and biophysics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, starting in August. Beutel's appointment is effective June 16.
 
Beutel previously held a number of positions with Abbott Laboratories, last serving as senior director of target and lead discovery. Prior to Abbott, Beutel was group head of lead discovery and a senior scientist at PharmaGenics.
 
Cone will continue as a scientific consultant to Znomics and as an active member of the company's board of directors.
