Sophia Genetics Closes $15M Series C Financing Round

NEW YORK (GenomeWeb) – Sophia Genetics announced today that it has closed a $15 million Series C financing round led by Belgian billionaire Marc Coucke, the founder of Omega Pharma.

The Swiss genetics company will use the funds to add to its line of genomic tests and continue expanding its market, it said in a statement. Sophia added that it has seen a 400 percent growth rate in 2015, led by its analytics platform, Sophia Data Driven Medicine.

"Sophia Genetics stood out among an increasingly crowded field as it is so far ahead in fulfilling the promise of genomic testing, particularly in the fight against cancer," Coucke said in a statement. "I have no doubt that the company will continue to thrive as more hospitals and labs adopt its cutting-edge molecular diagnosis solutions to the benefit of patients all over Europe."

The company had previously received backing from Invoke Capital founder Mike Lynch in a Series B financing round in July 2014.

Sophia has also expanded its team to 60 employees over the past 18 months, the company added.
