PetaGene Expands in Middle East, Africa, Asia With AGBL Distribution Deal

NEW YORK – PetaGene today named Dubai-based Alliance Global (AGBL) as the exclusive distributor its PetaSuite genomic data compression software in the Middle East, Africa, Central Asia, and the South Asian countries of Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.

This news comes on the heels of PetaGene tapping Genique Lifesciences late last month to be the exclusive distributor of PetaSuite in India.

Cambridge, UK-based PetaGene said that its lossless compression software can reduce storage costs and data transfer times by 60 percent to 90 percent over BAM and gzipped FASTQ files. The technology integrates with existing bioinformatics pipelines and storage infrastructure, including cloud platforms, according to the company.

"AGBL already possesses significant expertise in sequencing technology sales and the wider genomics marketplace, making it an ideal partner for us in this region," PetaGene Cofounder and Chief Commercial Officer Vaughan Wittorff said in a statement, "We are excited to be working with AGBL to bring PetaGene's software to genomics researchers across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, so that they can access their genomic data faster, more efficiently, and store it more cost-effectively."

Alliance Global has struck numerous distribution deals with makers of molecular diagnostic and analysis technology, including molecular spectroscopy instruments maker Trinean, cell analysis tools manufacturer Fluxion Biosciences, and biosampling firm Mawi DNA Technologies. AGBL also distributes Illumina sequencers in its service areas.
