PetaGene Enters Indian Market With Distribution Deal

NEW YORK – PetaGene said today that it has tapped Genique Lifesciences as the exclusive distributor of its PetaSuite genomic data compression software in India. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Genique, a year-old startup based near New Delhi, already distributes next-generation sequencing equipment in that country.

"Genique already possesses significant expertise in sequencing technology sales and the consumer DNA testing market, making it an ideal partner for us in India, one of the fastest growing genomics markets," commented PetaGene Chief Commercial Officer Vaughan Wittorff said in a statement.

"We are delighted to represent PetaGene in India. Their innovative technology will help organizations optimize their on-site or cloud storage costs for the growing volume of genomic data in India," added Genique CEO Abhishek Das.

PetaGene, of Cambridge, UK, last year raised $2.1 million in venture capital. In April, the company became a NetApp alliance partner, allowing the Silicon Valley cloud data services firm to resell PetaGene software.
