NEW YORK – OraSure Technologies disclosed on Friday that it was the victim of data theft in late March.
The Bethlehem, Pennsylvania-based developer of diagnostic tests, microbiome services, and sample collection products said that on around March 27 it became aware of a cybersecurity incident involving access to company data from information systems.
Files were exfiltrated, OraSure said in a US Securities and Exchange Commission filing. OraSure subsequently notified law enforcement and initiated an investigation with the help of cybersecurity experts and external counsel. The company also said that it is still investigating the extent of any sensitive information in the accessed systems as well as evaluating the regulatory and legal notifications required.
OraSure said that it believes it has contained the incident and preserved the integrity of its core financial and operational systems. The incident has not had material impact on its financial condition, nor does the company anticipate that the incident will have material impact on its financial condition and results of operations going forward.
