Zymo Research Quick-DNA/RNA Water Kit
Zymo Research has launched the Quick-DNA/RNA Water Kit to provide total DNA/RNA recovery from water samples. The kit can be used to recover nucleic acids from viruses, bacteria, and fungi, as well as free DNA/RNA from microbes in wastewater and environmental water samples. A key feature of the kit is its advanced wastewater stabilization buffer, which facilitates the pelleting of microbes and free nucleic acids without the need for vacuum filtration, Zymo said. In addition, the kits feature inhibitor removal, which is especially important when processing large volumes of wastewater, where pathogens are typically present in low abundance, the company said.
Genetic Technologies GeneType Risk Assessment Test
Genetic Technologies has globally launched its GeneType Risk Assessment test for the EasyDNA platform. GeneType Risk Assessment is a comprehensive solution for understanding a patient's personal risk of a range of common diseases including breast cancer, colorectal cancer, ovarian cancer, coronary artery disease, prostate cancer, and type 2 diabetes, the company said. The test is ordered by a physician, who collects a buccal swab from a patient and returns it to GeneType, a wholly owned subsidiary of Genetic Technologies. The results are intended to help physicians translate a patient's personal clinical, family, and genetic data into an actionable preventable health plan. Genetic Technologies said that it has built a streamlined online process for both clinicians and consumers with partners Nest Genomics, DNAnexus, DNA Visit, Gene By Gene, and Fabric Genomics.

Maine Molecular Quality Controls has launched new panels for quality control and performance monitoring of two commercial sample-to-answer molecular tests.
The SpotFire RSP Positive & Negative Controls are for use with the BioFire Spotfire Respiratory/Sore Throat Panel Mini assay from BioMérieux.
The Xpert NPM1 Control Panel C194v1.1, meanwhile, can be used to monitor NPM1 Type A, Type B, and Type D mutant mRNA transcripts and ABL1 endogenous control mRNA transcripts for acute myeloid leukemia molecular characterization on the Cepheid GeneXpert system.
