Microbiologics Acquires German Quality Controls Manufacturer SensID

NEW YORK – Microbiologics announced Wednesday that it has acquired German quality controls company SensID.

Rostock, Germany-based SensID manufactures reference materials and quality controls for molecular diagnostics with a focus on oncology and precision medicine. The firm will remain headquartered in Germany and marks Microbiologics' first location outside of the US, the Saint Cloud, Minnesota-based company said in a statement.

SensID provides "intensely characterized reference materials and quality controls used for R&D, validation, and quality control of molecular diagnostic tests," Microbiologics said. SensID recently launched an ESR1 mutations reference set for validation of cell-free DNA mutation detection methods and a platform-agnostic control for dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase testing.

The acquisition will allow Microbiologics, which specializes in infectious disease reference materials and contract research services, to expand into oncology and precision medicine, it noted.

"This partnership isn't just about expanding our capabilities; it's about bringing together two organizations who are deeply passionate about advancing the future of diagnostics," Microbiologics CEO Kristen Knox said in a statement. "At the heart of everything we do is a commitment to improving the lives of patients and healthcare professionals around the world. By combining our expertise in infectious disease and oncology diagnostics, we can make an even greater impact."

Private investment and long-term holding company Granite Partners owns Microbiologics and assisted the firm in its acquisition of SensID. JP Morgan Chase Bank and Bell Capital Finance provided financing for the deal. A spokesperson for Microbiologics declined via email to disclose the terms of the purchase, noting both Microbiologics and SensID are privately held companies.
