GeneAdviser Raises £350K in Seed Funding

NEW YORK (GenomeWeb) – GeneAdviser, a UK-based online ordering platform for clinical genetic tests, said today that it has raised £350,000 ($505,500) in a seed funding round.

The firm, which was formed by a team of researchers and geneticists from Cambridge University, provides doctors with a way to compare genetics tests and services and order them for patients. GeneAdviser said clinicians already use the platform to order tests from the NHS Regional Genetics Centre at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, and it will use the funds from the investment round to expand its ordering platform in order to make it easier for clinicians to select and order tests.

The seed round was led by Abcam Founder and life science investor Jonathan Milner — who has joined the company as chairman of the board — and several individual investors including Horizon Discovery CEO Darrin Disley, Phoremost CEO Chris Torrance, and Delta2020 Founder Simon Thorpe.

"GeneAdviser fills a great need for accessible genetic testing and will significantly impact the lives of patients with rare disease, cancer, and neurological conditions," Milner said in a statement. "It shows real potential to scale quickly and become the market leader in this space."
