In Brief This Week: Circular Genomics, Parse Biosciences, Flatiron Health, More

NEW YORK – Circular Genomics said this week that it is moving its corporate headquarters to Lilly Gateway Labs in San Diego, which is operated in partnership with Alexandria Real Estate Equities. Gateway Labs is an innovation hub that connects biotech companies to Eli Lilly's expertise. The company will use these resources to advance the development of diagnostic and prognostic blood tests for Alzheimer's disease based on the company's circular RNA (circRNA) biomarker technology. In September, Circular Genomics launched the early-access program for MindLight, its first circRNA biomarker-based blood test designed to predict the likelihood of whether a patient with major depressive disorder (MDD) will respond, or not, to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant treatment.

Parse Biosciences has added the South Australian Genomics Centre as the newest member of its certified service provider program. Parse said that the SAGC expands access for its single-cell sequencing and analysis technologies to researchers in Australia and the broader Asia-Pacific region. The SAGC is located in Adelaide, South Australia, with labs in both the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) and Flinders University and offers a wide range of genomics and bioinformatics services.

Flatiron Health said this week that it is collaborating with NRG Oncology — a clinical research consortium in the National Cancer Institute's National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN) — to use Flatiron Clinical Pipe in a multicenter NRG clinical trial. Flatiron Clinical Pipe software connects electronic health records (EHRs) to electronic data capture, improving efficiency and reducing the time and effort involved in clinical study data entry, Flatiron said. Flatiron's EHR-to-EDC technology is expected to reduce the burden on NRG clinical trial site teams, streamline data management, and accelerate study timelines. In parallel, NRG and Flatiron will conduct a correlative study to assess the efficiency of Flatiron Clinical Pipe use compared to traditional data entry methods.

Indian precision oncology firm 4baseCare said this week that its genomics lab at Dubai Science Park has been accredited by the College of American Pathologists. The lab was established in partnership with United Arab Emirates-based next-generation sequencing provider Innovate Life Sciences. The two firms inked a deal last fall to offer 4baseCare’s genomic tests in Dubai.

Life science firm Enzo Biochem this week reported that its fiscal second quarter revenues declined 14 percent to $7.3 million compared to the prior-year quarter due to the timing of a larger order and market slowdown in the US. The company reported a Q2 net loss of $1.5 million, or $.03 per share. Enzo ended the quarter with cash and cash equivalents of $40.3 million. The company said its plan to return to compliance with continued listing standards is currently under review by the New York Stock Exchange.
