Agena, CapitalBio Partner on Genetic Agricultural Tests

NEW YORK (GenomeWeb) – Agena Bioscience announced today that it has formed a partnership with CapitalBio Technology to develop and commercialize genetic tests for a variety of agricultural applications in China and other markets.

The tests will be based on Agena's MassArray system — a mass spectrometry-based platform for measuring genetic variants that Agena acquired from Sequenom in 2014 — and focused on applications in livestock, horticulture, and aquaculture. Under the terms of the deal, Beijing-based CapitalBio will commercialize the tests in China and additional regional markets as an Agena Certified Service Provider.

"CapitalBio has established a strong presence in agriculture through strategic partnerships and government project collaborations," Agena CEO Pete Dansky said in a statement. "We are enthusiastic to be selected by an established leader to support our endeavors in production-level agricultural screening in China."

Additional terms of the arrangement were not disclosed.
