The Wall Street Journal reports that the White House requested a bigger budget for the Food and Drug Administration for fiscal year 2009. Most of the $130 million would go toward monitoring drug and medical device safety, as well as funding food-safety initiatives. Also, the White House wants the FDA to have the authority to approve generic versions of biologic drugs.
