According to a CNET News article, the rush to apply for H-1B visas was so tremendous this year that the US immigration services group says it received more applications on the first day of submissions than the country can grant for all of next year.

Tech-focused companies in particular led the drive to apply for work visas for non-citizen employees. With 150,000 applications and a cap of 65,000 visas to be issued, the agency says it will no longer be accepting petitions for the permits.
