Phil Green has written a commentary in Genome Research, questioning continuing to sequence genomes at low coverage. Green looks at the uses and tradeoffs of 2x assemblies. “He argues that whilst useful information can be gleaned from low-coverage genome sequence, we are surely missing the most interesting regions," writes Neil Saunders, who pointed out the essay on his blog, What You’re Doing Is Rather Desperate.
