Beginning tomorrow night on PBS is a series called African-American Lives 2 that brings together DNA samples, slave ship records, wills, and other historical documents to trace the ancestry of 12 people, including Maya Angelou, Morgan Freeman, and Chris Rock. Harvard's Henry Louis Gates Jr., who hosts the project, says that using DNA and historical records could change how schoolchildren learn science.
