Among the winners of this year's National Medal of Science and National Medal of Technology and Innovation awards are Francis Collins and Craig Venter for their work to sequence the human genome, according to the Chronicle of Higher Education. Other science medal winners include Rockefeller University's Elaine Fuchs and MIT's JoAnne Stubbe. "These scientists, engineers and inventors are national icons, embodying the very best of American ingenuity and inspiring a new generation of thinkers and innovators," President Obama said in a statement.
