New York Times reports on a study from the Genographic Project that found a "lasting genetic imprint" from the seafaring Phoenicians has been passed down in populations surrounding the Mediterranean. "As many as 1 in 17 men living today on the coasts of North Africa and southern Europe may have a Phoenician direct male-line ancestor," the story says. The study was reported in the American Journal of Human Genetics.
