A lead stem cell researcher has encouraged making an iPS cell bank, says a Reuters article. Last year, Shinya Yamanaka of Kyoto University led one of two teams that revealed how to make stem cells out of skin cells, named induced pluripotent stem cells. Instead of making tailored cells for each potential patient, the bank could "cut down the cost of treatment and also we can shorten the period which is required for the generation of iPS cells," Yamanaka said.
