Stuck finishing a manuscript on a Saturday night? Charles Magee at Lounge of the Lab Lemming offers a rather insalubrious solution for your weekend woes — he proposes a "reference-checking drinking game," in which one consumes specific aliquots of an alcoholic beverage per their inconsistent use of "et al." as well as "gratuitous references to common knowledge which you tracked down as a form of procrastination," accidentally auto-formatting your document — and, consequently, losing all manual edits — and citing "papers you've never actually read," among other things. Magee jokes that one should "should drain the bottle" should they "actually" read a paper they've referenced in their own, "only to find that it actually says the opposite of what you inferred based on the way that other people referenced it."
