Sequencing: The Ultimate Screening Tool

James Watson spoke of the potential for high-throughput sequencing at yesterday's launch of the Wellcome Collection, according to this article in The Guardian. He says that within 10 years, sequencing will be cheap and fast enough that doctors will be able to routinely use it to treat serious genetic diseases such as cancer and mental illness -- and consumers can use it to determine whether they should have children.
