There are few things that GTO enjoys more than a good rant. Check out this post from Mike the Mad Biologist arguing that the human microbiome initiative "is being driven by the wrong group of scientists." He says the project should be directed by biologists with a medical bent, rather than being led by the major genome centers. Mike adds that a number of concerns -- complexity of the chosen system, lack of reference genomes, and more -- mean that the microbiome initiative is at risk of winding up with insufficient, fragmentary data.
