Former Microsoft executive Nathan Myhrvold’s investment firm Intellectual Ventures is poised to go global, reports the Wall Street Journal. The company plans to raise $1 billion to develop and patent inventions, especially from Asian universities, that they can then license. The WSJ law blog adds, "The news of the company’s growth renews concerns that Intellectual Ventures is a litigation play, or, to use another popular pejorative phrase, that it’s a giant "patent troll.'"
