A New Advisor?

The European Union has named its first chief scientific advisor, reports Nature, though ScienceInsider says it was unable to confirm the appointment. Nature says Anne Glover, a microbiologist and the chief scientific advisor for Scotland, will be taking the position. "If it's true, then that's a fantastic appointment," Ian Diamond from the University of Aberdeen, where Glover works, tells ScienceInsider.

Nature notes that the role of the CSA is unclear, including how much influence the CSA will have on policy, and even who the advisor will report to.
