The Department of Health and Human Services has awarded $1 billion in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds for the construction, repair, and renovation of biomedical research labs across the country, NIH says. In total, 146 grants were awarded to institutions across the US and among the institutions receiving money are: the Children's Health Research and Evaluation Facility in Indianapolis, which received almost $8.5 million to create a facility for pediatric clinical research and a core facility of pediatric phenotyping labs; the Genome Data Center Initiative in St. Louis, which was awarded $14.3 million to build a data center to support human genome research; and the Cell and DNA Repository Renovation in New Jersey, which received $9.5 million to renovate its biology lab.
