Jonathan Eisen is encouraging people to check out a recent PLoS ONE paper on the metagenomics of a bathypelagic habitat deep in the Mediterranean. In the article, the scientists discover that, in the absence of light, water temperature is more important than depth in determining the community structure. Eisen is also testing PLoS's comment system. He and members of his lab have annotated the paper and left comments, but Eisen is still trying to figure out the trackback system.
