Tech Review looks into last week's announcement of a cloud-computing research initiative that will include Intel, Yahoo, HP, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany and Infocomm Development Authority in Singapore. The project will use six computing clusters each with between 1,000 and 4,000 processors to host complex, data-intensive tasks. "Making this marriage of substantial processing power, computing resources, and data resources work efficiently, seamlessly, and transparently is the challenge," says Illinois' Michael Heath.
