In a bid for tenure, James Sherley, a biological engineer at MIT, gave up eating. After 12 days, he abandoned his fast that highlighted issues of racism in campus practices. The Boston Globe reports that Sherley lost 20 pounds during his hunger strike. Sherley still does not have tenure and MIT says that decision is final.
