Since today is National DNA Day, the American Society of Human Genetics announced the winners of this year’s essay contest. One first-place winner, an 11th grader from Michigan, said she would focus on the pharmacogenomics of bipolar disorder if she were a genetics researcher. The other first-place winner, a 9th grader from Maryland who wrote on a separate topic, sees the future of medicine in personalized chips containing complete genetic profiles.
